Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1) How is the training at VU provided?
- The training at VU is recorded, instructor-led training. The training has a lot of real world examples and information provided by a very experienced virtualization expert (see bio below). This is not about our instructor reading slides to you. The training also includes many labs where procedures are actually carried out in a VMware environment. These can easily be duplicated in your lab as you follow along. The training may be reviewed by the licensed user as many times as desired.
2) Is the training Streamed?
- No. The training files are downloadable to your network or computer. This allows you to provide access to the number of users for whom you have purchased VU training without continuously downloading or streaming training. One download can train all of your licensed users. From there the users simply access the training media files on your network or PC’s.
3) Does the training expire?
- No. Once you’ve purchased access to the courseware all of the licensed users may utilize it as many times as they would like. Imagine a situation where a VMware administrator would like to modify advanced configuration options on a virtual switch but he/she doesn’t recall what each of the options means. They can simply go back to the training purchased from Virtualization University and watch that module again for a quick refresher.
4) Who is the instructor? What sort of real-world experience does he have?
- Our lead instructor, Larry Loucks, has literally thousands of hours of training and consulting experience. Over the years Larry Loucks has taught Novell, Microsoft, Cisco, VMware and security classes to name a few. He is a former VMware Certified Instructor and a former staff VMware Senior Consultant. He also has 23 years of IT/consulting experience. His understanding of networking (switching/routing), security and virtualization all combine to provide a lot of depth to the training provided at Virtualization University.
5) How is the training at Virtualization University licensed?
- VU training is licensed per user. For example if you have 4 administrators for whom you would like to provide virtualization training simply purchase 4 licenses of a given courseware. It is a violation of VU’s license policy to allow non-licensed users access to the training. Guard your username and password to the site well. Access is monitored and if the username and password are breached and/or used to provide un-authorized access to the training your account will be banned without refund.
6) What media formats are supported?
- Media files are rendered for Windows Media Player. MAC (Quicktime), and iPod formats are available upon request for purchasing customers. Simply email vusupport@virtualizationuniversity.com and request the additional media format you require and we will verify your purchase status and provide you with a link. WARNING: If you are using VU training on an iPod or other portable device do not do so while driving or engaging in any activity that requires your full attention.
7) Can VU training help me become certified by VMware as a VCP?
-
Yes, with caveats. VU training can certainly teach or reinforce a lot of the knowledge that you will need to obtain your VCP certification and, since you can review the training as many times as you would like, it certainly is helpful in that arena. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are NOT currently VCP certified by VMware you must attend an authorized VMware class to become certified. Even if you pass your certification test, attending a VMware authorized class is a mandatory part of certification. If you are already a VI3 VCP and wish to update your certification to vSphere VCP VMware is allowing existing VI3 VCP's to update their certification without class attendance through the end of 2009.
